Wondering how to map a USB drive to a virtual machine in Hyper-V?

To map a USB drive to a virtual machine in Hyper-V:

  • Add a new hard drive to the virtual machine
  • Log into the virtual machine’s operating system and load the Windows disk management tools
  • Right click the disk you added and take the disk offline
  • In Hyper-V change the properties of the virtual disk to point to the USB drive you have inserted into the Hyper-V host
  • Click OK to map the USB drive to the virtual machine
