Unable to send emails to Hotmail
« on: July 22, 2017, 11:46:33 am »
Hi all,

In this article, I am discussing on the email issues facing while sending emails to Hotmail accounts and some common methods to eliminate this. This method is only applicable when you are unable to send emails to Hotmail accounts only.

When you send emails to a Hotmail account and got rejected, the first thing is to look for the error message. One of the common error messages you can get is:

550 SC-001 (COL004-MC5F31) Unfortunately, messages from  **.**.**.**(IP)
weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of
their network is on our block list. You can also refer your provider to
http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors.

If you get such an error message, first read the error message carefully. The error message will contain an error code and a link. First got to the link:  http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors

Please scroll down a little and then you can see all the SMTP error codes and their corresponding explanations. In our case, the error code will be 550 SC-001. You will able to see the corresponding explanation for this error which will be like this:

"550 SC-001   - Mail rejected by Outlook.com for policy reasons. Reasons for rejection may be related to content with spam-like characteristics or IP/domain reputation. If you are not an email/network admin please contact your Email/Internet Service Provider for help."

This means that Outlook.com is rejecting your emails because the domain from which you are sending emails are unfamiliar to Outlook.com and are blocked supposing that it would be a spam email.

You can easily rectify this by submitting a request at Outlook.com in order to state that your email address or domain is spam free. You can do this at:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/getsupport?oaspworkflow=start_1.0.0.0&wfname=capsub&productkey=edfsmsbl3&locale=en-us&ccsid=636359938923522658

After submitting a request, Oulook.com will reach you and you can provide the error messages you received and they will rectify this for you.

I hope that this article finds useful.

Have a great day!   8)
